There are a variety of fencing materials for you to choose from when you've decided to have a fence installed. Each brings with it, its own pros and cons. As a home owner, you should familiarize yourself with the options that are available to you before you call a fencing company. Often, a homeowner will simply choose to replace one fence with one exactly like the old one, however, you certainly do have alternatives, and some may be better suited to meet your needs. Wood

A classic wooden fence looks at home, almost anywhere. It can be six feet tall, or shorter, depending on what you are looking for. The wooden fence is perfect for the homeowner who is looking for privacy. It keeps prying eyes from seeing inside your yard, and it keeps children and pets inside the yard. Some things that you should know about this fence material include;

  • The fence will require staining or painting from time to time.

  • Wood can rot when it's wet, which is one reason for staining or painting.

Vinyl

Vinyl fencing is also known as PVC fencing. If you're looking for a durable material that is virtually maintenance free, this is it. This fence never needs painting. Rain and sun have no impact on this type of fencing. If it gets dirty, you can easily hose it down to bring back it's wonderful, good looks. Again, this type of fencing can be tall, or short, it can also be an excellent privacy fence if you choose the right style. It's very versatile. The cost of vinyl fencing is more expensive than wood.


Chain Link

When you're looking for a fencing material that is inexpensive, strong and long lasting, chain link is the answer. This type of fencing is often considered, no frills. It does the job if you want to provide a barrier to keep pets and children in, or others out. It is not an option if you are looking to add privacy to your space. It is easy to care for. Every few years, it might need to be painted, but other than that it's maintenance free.
